Visit of Prof. Gang Bao, International Consultant of Center of Excellence in Biotechnology Research

The Vice Rector for Knowledge Exchange and Technology Transfer and the Chairman of the Center of Excellence in Biotechnology Research (CEBR)'s Management Board, Prof. Hamad Al-Khathlan, met Prof. Gang Bao (International Consultant of Center of Excellence in Biotechnology Research, CEBR) on Saturday November 6th, 2010 (29/11/1431 H). Prof. Bao shared information about Georgia Institute of Technology and his scientific experience in research and technology. He highlighted the biotechnology research opportunities at Georgia Institute of Technology and how CEBR can exploit these opportunities to strengthen the CEBR's science program. Prof. Bao's research focused on biotechnology research programs and mainly on the nanotechnology research in cardiovascular diseases and proteins regulation.

Prof Al-Khathlan discussion focused on the ways of research collaboration between CEBR and Georgia Institute of Technology through the transferring of technology to King Saud University. He mentioned the research facilities that are available in King Saud University and the distinguished researchers who have excellent scientific publications. He also talked about the vision of King Saud University in the international collaboration through the technology transfer.

Prof. Bao delivered a lecture on Saturday 6/11/2010 (29/11/1431 H) at College of Pharmacy entitled "Center of Excellence and Opportunities in Biotechnology Research at Georgia Institute of Technology". During his lecture, Prof. Bao emphasized the importance of establishing collaborative initiatives in both academic and research between King Saud University and Georgia Institute of Technology as well as to establish graduate programs. The issue is very important in teaching and training the national Saudi in many areas of biotechnology programs.

CEBR is considered as one of the important center at King Saud University among a series of excellence centers which are funded by The Ministry of Higher Education. Biotechnology plays a vital role in drug industry, animal and agricultural production and advanced medical researches.

Prof. Bao's visit program included: meeting with CEBR's officials, Executive Committee, Scientific Committee members and researchers. He also visited state-of-art and highly tech research CEBR's satellite laboratories at Colleges of Science and Pharmacy. Prof. Bao and CEBR administration anticipate that their partnership will bring a new dimension to the research at King Saud University.
