Future Research Programs at the Center of Excellence in Biotechnology Research

On 6/1/1432 H (12/12/2010 AD), his Excellency Professor Abdullah bin Abdurrahman Al Othman, King Saud University Rector, issued the approval of the Center's Management Board recommendation in its sixth meeting, held on 2/12/1431 H (8/11/2010 AD), as follows:

 

1. Introduction:

The Center's Administration believes in the need to restructure the Research Programs and to identify research areas with clear and specific research lines, that address discipline and research lines, to achieve the excellence and international leadership for the Center. And considering the Center's future ambitions in alignment with international trends in the field of Biotechnology. This include:

  • Technology transfer and adaptation.
  • To encourage quality scientific publication in peer reviewed international journals listed in the ISI database.
  • To encourage qualified Saudi researchers and to encourage supervision of graduate students.
  • Activating the international cooperation through exchange visits and experiences with international centers specialized in the field of Biotechnology. Furthermore, to link the proposed research programs with 'International Advisors and Team Leader', to take advantage of their expertise to implement the 'work plan' for the proposed research project.

 

2. Introduction of two research programs:


 

A. Biomedical Sciences Research Program.
B. Plant and Animal Sciences Research Program.

 

3. Identification of common interests for active research groups working in different Biotechnology areas:

A. Biomedical Sciences Research Program.
  • Vaccines: Production and Development.
  • Cancer: Diagnosis and Treatment.
  • Biomarkers: Molecular Basis of Chronic Diseases.

 

B. Plant and Animal Sciences Research Program.

  • Biotechnology for Plant Productivity: Improvement and Applications.
  • Application of Biotechnology for the Enhancement of Animal Profitability.

 

The Center is currently developing implementation and funding mechanisms necessary to launch the research programs and corresponding lines. Consequently, the Center will pass the draft to the 'Management Board' for final approval.

 

After being approved, the Center will announce the implementation and funding mechanisms on the website.
